Ed. Macba, Barcelona
180 pp., 16,5 x 21 cm. Spanish/English
Price: 33 €

Catalogue after solo show of Asier Mendizabal at the Macba. Mendizabal's practice can be described as a critique of ideology based on the establishment of structures that give form. In this respect, he does not hesitate to use the most suitable languages and tools for each situation: sculpture, photography, video, film, writing and poster design. The publication brings together texts on Asier Mendizabal's work by Bartomeu Marí, Peio Aguirre, Diedrich Diederichsen and Ian Svenonius.
Ortxarcoaga (M-L), 2007
Self produced
15 pp., 21 x 29,4 cm. Spanish/English

Booklet with an essay by Mendizabal which refers to the work Otxarkoaga (M-L)(2007). The work reflects on a citizens' initiative to raise a monument in the Bilbao district of Otxarkoaga using busts of Lenin and Marx proceeding directly from the breakup of the Communist block. The role of the artist in this context is always to inject greater complexity into the discourses in order to explore the link between the aesthetic and the political and overcome the inadequate ideas present as much in one domain as in the other.
